The more than 62,000 patients (including nearly 5,000 women Veterans) treated by VHI require 680,000 outpatient visits, 63,000 unique Veterans, 8,600 inpatient admissions, 29,000 emergency visits, and 7,000 surgical procedures annually, with a 94 hospital ADC and 35,400 bed days of care per year. VHI’s research program operates 245 active research protocols involving human subjects, laboratory animals, and hazardous agents, with a budget of approximately $21 million. VHI provides education to over 150 fellows, 775 residents, 832 medical students, 680 nursing students, 48 PA students, 51 pharmacy students and 2500 allied health professionals annually. VHI enjoys a longstanding, active academic affiliation with over 59 academic institutions including, Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSOM), Marian University, IUPUI School of Nursing, Purdue and more.
